Isolation and characterization of microsatellite markers for the Korean rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli

Authors: C.-C. Bai, S.-F. Liu, Z.-M. Zhuang, L. Lin, H. Wang and Y.-Q. Chang

The Korean rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli) is an important commercial fish that is widely used in aquaculture. We isolated and characterized 18 polymorphic microsatellite loci from the Korean rockfish using a (GT)13-enriched genomic library. Polymorphism was assessed in 48 individuals from a single population collected from the .. Read More»

Isolation and characterization of polymorphic microsatellite loci of the Chinese muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi)

Authors: H. Wang, X. Luo, W.B. Shi and B.W. Zhang

Eight polymorphic microsatellite markers for Muntiacus reevesi were identified and characterized in this study. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 3 to 10 across 24-48 samples. The loci showed expected and observed heterozygosities of 0.577-0.876 and 0.387-0.933, respectively, with an average polymorphic information c.. Read More»

Isolation, characterization, and cross-transferability of microsatellite markers from the whitebacked planthopper (Sogatella furcifera)

Authors: L. Zhang, G. Li, G.C. He, L.L. Zhu, R. Qin and S.L. Jing

The whitebacked planthopper Sogatella furcifera (Horváth) (Hemiptera: Delphacidae) is one of the most harmful pests of rice. In this study, 18 polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed from S. furcifera genomic libraries using the fast isolation by amplified fragment length polymorphism of sequences containing r.. Multiplex PCR panel of microsatellite markers for the tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, developed as a tool for use in conservation and broodstock management

Authors: I.G. Hamoy and S. Santos

The tambaqui, Colossoma macropomum, native to Brazil, is widely used in aquaculture systems. We developed a multiplex PCR panel for this species, comprising 12 microsatellite loci. This panel was used to genotype 73 specimens collected from Juruti, a city in the Brazilian Amazon. The mean number of alleles per locus was 8.8, t.. Read More»

Genetic relationship of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) varieties from Senegal based on SSR markers

Authors: F.A. Badiane, B.S. Gowda, N. Ciss©, D. Diouf, O. Sadio and M.P. Timko

Genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships among 22 local cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) varieties and inbred lines collected throughout Senegal were evaluated using simple sequence repeat molecular markers. A set of 49 primer combinations were developed from cowpea genomic/expressed sequence tags and evaluated for their abi.. Read More»

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite markers for the White Cloud Mountain minnow (Tanichthys albonubes) in wild and cultured populations

Authors: J. Zhao, D.-Y. Tseng, H.-D. Lin and X.-T. Lin

We developed 12 microsatellite loci for the endangered minnow species, Tanichthys albonubes, using PCR-based isolation of microsatellite arrays. These new markers were tested in 26 individuals from a wild population collected from Guangzhou in China and 26 individuals from a cultured strain. The number of alleles ranged from t.. Read More»

Genetic diversity in the Pantaneiro horse breed assessed using microsatellite DNA markers

Authors: E.H. Giacomoni, G.P. Fern¡ndez-Stolz and T.R.O. Freitas

The genetic variability for a sample of 227 animals from three populations of Pantaneiro horses was estimated using data from 10 microsatellite loci. The number of alleles and the proportion of heterozygosity indicated high variability. A total of 91 alleles were found, with a significantly high mean number of alleles. The mea.. Read More»

Estimation of taurindicine hybridization of American Zebu cattle in Brazil

Authors: P. Ripamonte, M. Baccaglini, A.S.M. Cesar, L.G.G. Figueiredo, J.C.C. Balieiro, A.R. Caetano and F.V. Meirelles

Our objective was to estimate Bos primigenius taurus introgression in American Zebu cattle. One hundred and four American Zebu (Nellore) cattle were submitted to mtDNA, microsatellite and satellite analysis. Twenty-three alleles were detected in microsatellite analysis, averaging 4.6 ± 1.82/locus. Variance component com.. Read More»

Characterization of nine novel microsatellite loci for the Venus clam (Cyclina sinensis)

Authors: J.X. Wang, T.J. Xu, L. Wei, F.X. Meng and R.X. Wang

The Venus clam, Cyclina sinensis, is one of the most important bivalves in China marine aquaculture. Using (CA)15-enriched genomic libraries of this species, nine novel polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized. The mean number of observed alleles per locus was 16 (range 8-24). The observed and expected h.. Read More»

Development of novel polymorphic microsatellite markers for the silver fox (Vulpes vulpes)

Authors: S.Q. Yan, C.Y. Bai, S.M. Qi, Y.M. Li, W.J. Li and J.H. Sun

The silver fox (Vulpes vulpes), a coat color variant of the red fox, is one of the most important fur-bearing animals. To date, development of microsatellite loci for the silver fox has been limited and mainly based on cross-amplification by using canine SSR primers. In this study, 28 polymorphic microsatellite markers were isolated and identified for sil.. Read More»
