Assessing the genetic relationships of Curcuma alismatifolia varieties using simple sequence repeat markers

Authors: S. Taheri, T.L. Abdullah, N.A.P. Abdullah, Z. Ahmad, E. Karimi and M.R. Shabanimofrad

The genus Curcuma is a member of the ginger family (Zingiberaceae) that has recently become popular for use as flowering pot plants, both indoors and as patio and landscape plants. We used PCR-based molecular markers (SSRs) to elucidate genetic variation and relationships between five varieties of Curcuma (.. Read More»

SSR-based molecular analysis of economically important Turkish apricot cultivars

Authors: A.E. Akp±nar, H. Ko§al, A. Erg¼l, K. Kazan, M.E. elli, M. Bak±r, . Aslanta, S. Kaymak and R. Sar±ba

Turkey is not only the main apricot (Prunus armeniaca) producer and exporter in the world, but it also has a wide variety of apricot germplasms, owing to its close proximity to the centers of apricot origin. However, there is little or no genetic information on many apricot cultivars that are extensively cultivated in Turkey. .. Read More»

Genetic diversity analysis of Aspergillus flavus isolates from plants and air by ISSR markers

Authors: M.A. Mahmoud, A.M.A. El-Samawaty, M.A. Yassin and A.R.M. Abd El-Aziz

Aspergillus flavus is one of the most abundant and widely distributed fungi on earth. A. flavus produces aflatoxins (AFs), which are toxic secondary metabolites. AFs have harmful effects on public health (humans and animals) and agricultural crops. Inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR) markers were used to analyze the genetic di.. Read More»

Molecular characterization of Aspergillus flavus and aflatoxin contamination of wheat grains from Saudi Arabia

Authors: A.S. Al-Wadai, M.R. Al-Othman, M.A. Mahmoud and A.R.M. Abd El-Aziz

Twelve species belonging to six fungal genera were found to be associated with wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) grain samples collected from three main regions in Saudi Arabia. The most common genera (average frequency) were Aspergillus (14.3%), Fusarium (29.1%), Penicillium (9.3%), and Alternaria (8.2%). Nineteen isolates of Aspergillus flavus were screened .. Read More»

Microsatellite isolation and characterization for Colletotrichum spp, causal agent of anthracnose in Andean blackberry

Authors: M.L. Marulanda, A.M. L³pez, L. Isaza and P. L³pez

The genus Colletotrichum, comprised of pathogenic fungi that affect plants grown worldwide, causes the disease known as anthracnose in several fruit and vegetable species. Several studies conducted on plants have shown that the disease is characterized by the presence of one or several species of the fungus attacking .. Read More»
